What do sitelogr, markosweb and serversiders.com have in common?

May 26th, 2010 Steve 1 comment

Sitelogr.com  is one of my favorite Internet tools. Take a look.

What does Sitelogr offer?
Sitelogr is a free service that provides a vast quantity of valuable information to webmasters about every website on the internet, gathered from diverse sources in real-time.

Among those are the queried website’s estimated value in dollars, it’s world rank, estimated income per day, estimated visits per day, the hosting country, the website IP, Alexa Rank, Google PageRank, Google index, Yahoo index and a nice suite of Domain tools, including robots, hostname, headers, trace, service status, ping and DNS. Throw in a Domain Traffic Graph, IP Map Location and Whois Information.

markosweb.com (smartviper) is another of my favorites.

What does Markosweb offer?
It’s a web service that collects and analyzes any data about domains and keywords they are optimized for. Smartviper includes a domain worth analyzer and historical statistics. They currently use around 25+ open API sources researching the most popular domains and keywords. Markosweb stores over 250,000,000 records (for over 3,300,000 domains) in their database and continue to grow.

Their goal is to help webmasters check their competitors and understand why their ranks are so high. Besides that, on the basis of some of their conclusions, they create useful summary tables for webmasters.

Serversiders.com is my third featured Internet tools favorite

What does serversiders.com offer?
Insert a domain and find out that sites title, language, global traffic ranking, traffic ranking within .com, pages indexed by Google, tags, hosting locations, hosting provider network, launch, IP address, reverse lookup, domains linking, domains on IP addresses near and domains with similar traffic rankings.

Internet Tools – My Favorites

Internet toolsAn intro to one of my favorite Internet tools
In the Internet industry, IP addresses are very much like postal addresses. They identify your location and your neighborhood. Internet tools that query IP addresses can produce a ton of information about who you are and who you’re associated with. For instance, Internet tools can tell if you’re blacklisted, display WHOIS information showing administrative and technical contacts, show upstream providers, and if you have a website, when that domain was created and when it’s due to expire.

One of my favorite Internet tools is Robtex.
Robtex is known as the Swiss army knife Internet tool because its so versatile. When you open Robtex, the first thing you’ll notice is that it displays your IP address with tons of information related to it like:

RBL and DNS checks
DNS reverse and forwards
Your entire c-network
WHOIS lookup information for a domain
Route checks
AS numbers
BGP announcements
AS macros
RFC documents
DMOZ

And it will display the same information for any IP or domain, so if you want to query backbone connections for any provider, you can simply enter that providers domain name and instantly see their upstream. Across the top navigation bar, you’ll see tabs for Summary, Records, Graph, Shared, Whois, Blacklists, Analysis and Contact. Want to know host names sharing an IP with A records – it’s there. Or domains using this as name server under another name – there again. Is your IP blacklisted?  Check and keep your fingers crossed  the links are all green (a good thing).

Favorite Website Design Links

April 14th, 2010 Steve 1 comment

Website DesignI know we all have our favorite links, for everything from hosting to retail outlets and services. I thought I’d ask if anyone wishes to share some of their favorite website design links?

Some of my favorites are:

Website Design Tools
Color choices can make or break a website. Use the online color wheel at this site to find the right color and HTML codes for your site. Color Wheel

Have you ever seen a font that you like, but have no clue what it is? Submit an image to WhatTheFont to find the closest matches in their database.

WAVE is a free web accessibility evaluation tool provided by WebAIM.  Rather than providing a complex technical report, WAVE shows the original web page with embedded icons and indicators that reveal the accessibility of that page.

The Webmaster Tips Library at NetMechanic are a must read for website designers. Here you’ll find in depth articles on everything from Accessibility, Search Engine Promotion, HTML Tips to Usability.

My absolute favorite is W3Schools. Wow, if you only link through to this one site, it’ll be worth all the others combined – it’s that good. Hungry for website design info – you can certainly fill your plate here. They even offer online developer certification courses for HTML, JavaScript, XML, ASP and PHP.
